Early Pregnancy Symptoms - Tiredness
Tiredness in early pregnancy is a result of rapidly rising HCG levels, very high progesterone levels, and a higher than normal body temperature.
It is not uncommon for newly pregnant women to complain that they feel absolutely exhausted very early on in pregnancy, especially throughout the first trimester. Many find that they need to have frequent naps during the day just to keep going!
Combined with frequent toilet trips, nausea and trying to hold down a job or caring for other children, perhaps it is no wonder pregnant women often feel worn out at the beginning of their pregnancy!
Coping with tiredness in pregnancy means you may have to try to cut down on some aspects of your life. That may mean missing a few of your favourite television programmes because you just can't stay awake throughout them, or you may have to go to bed earlier in the evenings. You might need lots of short naps throughout the day too.
If you are working outside the home, have a chat to your employers if you're finding things difficult as it may be possible to accommodate your need for sleep. You may be able to use a spare room to lie down during your lunch breaks or be excused a little earlier in the evenings for a few weeks.
Fortunately, during the second trimester of pregnancy most women begin to feel more energetic again and you may even feel ready to make up for any missed hours at this point!
