20 Weeks Pregnant - Signs of Pregnancy
Mother
At 20 weeks pregnant you should be more aware of your baby's movements.
As your womb grows with your baby, pushing other organs out of the way, you may start to suffer from heartburn.
You can help avoid heartburn by cutting out heavy or spicy meals from your diet, by eating smaller portions earlier in the evening and by propping yourself up in bed at night. Your GP can also prescribe suitable antacids to help treat and alleviate the problem.
You may start to get stretch marks now and your belly button may start to stick out!
Baby
Vernix, a creamy white substance, is forming on your baby's skin. This is quite greasy and most of it disappears before birth. However, if your baby is premature then he will likely still have some when he is born. Vernix is believed to help protect a baby's skin from the amniotic fluid whilst in the womb.
Your baby may now react to loud noises outside the womb, sometimes jumping quite violently!
