22 Weeks Pregnant
Mother
From around 20 weeks onwards you may start to notice some swelling especially around your hands, feet and ankles, as your body begins to retain more fluid.
You can help alleviate this to some degree by avoiding standing for long periods and resting with your feet up.
If the swelling happens very suddenly, especially around your hands or face then tell your GP as this can indicate a serious pregnancy condition, pre-eclampsia, which requires careful monitoring and treatment.
18-22 weeks is also when you are likely to have your foetal anomaly scan which checks for any major problems.
Baby
Your baby is now approximately 20cm long and has the appearance of a miniature newborn. However, if born now, it is unlikely he would survive as he is just not developed enough yet - 22 weeks is about the earliest age at which he would stand a chance. Weighing around 1lb, his eyebrows and eyelids are fully formed and if male, his testes move into his scrotum.
