4 Weeks Pregnant - Signs of Pregnancy

At 4 weeks pregnant you may begin to experience some signs of pregnancy such as nausea, breast tenderness/ sensitivity, an increased need to urinate, feeling extremely tired and hormonal. You may even have some food cravings or dislikes for things you previously enjoyed such as tea and coffee! Many women also notice a metallic taste in their mouths.
It is important to continue eating a healthy diet for both your own well-being and that of your developing baby. These symptoms are caused by rapidly increasing levels of the hormone HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) which is the hormone that pregnancy tests detect and the presence of which indicates pregnancy.

At the end of this week the cluster of cells that is to become your baby will finish implanting into the womb lining and is officially known as an embryo!
Measuring around 2mm, your baby is already visible to the naked eye! His spine and brain are beginning to develop. Around the embryo, the membrane known as the amniotic sac is forming. This sac is filled with clear, water-like fluid known as amniotic fluid and it is in this fluid that your baby will float and be protected for the remainder of your pregnancy.
