Pregnancy Day by Day: Day 12

The 12th day of pregnancy is a good time to think about your general health as well as trying to incorporate some pregnancy exercise into your daily routine.

Whilst it is not a good idea to suddenly start any form of high impact exercise, it is good for you and your developing baby if you try to maintain a gentle level of exercise throughout your pregnancy. Yoga, swimming, walking and gentle aerobics are all safe forms of exercise for pregnant women and many find that these help them prepare for labour and delivery.

If you have not been exercising prior to getting pregnant, you should have a chat with your doctor to ensure you do not have any underlying medical conditions that make exercise a no-go area. In the majority of cases your doctor will be more than happy for you to keep fit as long as you do so safely. However, if you experience any cramping or bleeding whilst or after exercising, you will need to call your doctor for medical advice and be prepared for the fact that you may be told to rest.
