Pregnancy Symptoms
Pregnancy symptoms... What are the very early signs of pregnancy? How long do they last? What if your pregnancy symptoms stop suddenly?
Most women experience some pregnancy symptoms with many even experiencing such early pregnancy symptoms that they know they are pregnant long before it is confirmed by their doctor!
Pregnancy symptoms vary enormously from woman to woman, with some experiencing every single pregnancy symptom whilst others suffer very few.
Some of the most commonly experienced pregnancy symptoms include: nausea/ vomiting, an enhanced sense of smell, frequent urination, breast tenderness, extreme tiredness, a missed period, light bleeding, dizziness/ fainting, constipation, mood swings/ irritability, heartburn/ indigestion, changes in complexion, increased cervical mucous/ vaginal discharge, weight loss, cramping, backache, headaches, an enhanced sense of taste and vaginal changes.
Pregnancy symptoms can strike at any time during pregnancy, although a lot of women start feeling pregnant just around the time they've missed their first period.
Sometimes the symptoms of pregnancy can stop very abruptly with mothers-to-be reporting that they just don't feel pregnant anymore. In this case, it is very important you request an appointment with your doctor as occasionally (but not always) this can indicate that a miscarriage has occured - especially if the sudden cessation of pregnancy symptoms is accompanied by cramping and/ or bleeding.
Whereas for a small number of women pregnancy symptoms such as nausea can be so severe that they find it difficult to cope (and may even end up hospitalised), for the majority of women they are manageable.
Pregnancy symptoms usually begin to ease off around 14 - 16 weeks into the pregnancy and many mothers-to-be suddenly realise they are feeling and looking wonderful and have lots of energy! Unfortunately for some, however, the symptoms of pregnancy last right up until the birth.
Have a chat with your doctor or midwife if you are really struggling to cope with your pregnancy symptoms as sometimes they can direct you towards therapies such as massage, reflexology or hypnosis that can temporarily alleviate some of the symptoms.
