Signs of Miscarriage
Bleeding is often one of the first signs of miscarriage. The bleeding may be just light spotting, or it can be like a very heavy period. There may be blood clots present, a brown discharge and other tissue.
If you notice any bleeding or spotting during pregnancy, you should contact your doctor or midwife for advice. You may be referred to your local maternity unit for an ultrasound scan to ensure the pregnancy is progressing as it should be.
There may be cramping (although this is often common in early pregnancy anyway and does not always signify a miscarriage), back and pelvic pain.
Pregnancy symptoms may cease suddenly, such as breast tenderness, nausea and frequent passing of urine.
Sometimes, however, signs of miscarriage are not obvious and are only detected during a routine ultrasound scan.
